Ministry suggests 5 hours per week ....
Here is a copy of the letter sent to grade 5 parents on Monday, April 6th
Good Morning Grade 5 families! We are now entering week 3 of School Closure. We continue to refine our practises to best meet the needs of our St. Jerome community. Your family’s health and safety are still our number one focus. Some new information to share with you is as follows:
- Contact from your child’s teacher will now be reduced from twice a week to once a week; this communication will take place on Mondays. What hasn’t changed is our availability to you. You can contact us as much or as little as you need via the method you currently use to communicate (i.e. email, Remind, SeeSaw, Class Dojo, etc.). We will get back to you at our earliest convenience.
- The weekly communication will come from your child’s English teacher but includes all the information you will need for both French and English subjects.
- The Ministry has set aside guidelines for the time students spend on specified subjects. For students in Grades 4 to 6, the Ministry suggests spending 5 hours of academic time per week.
- 2 ½ hours allocated towards Math/Science
- 2 ½ hours allocated towards Literacy (English, French, Social Studies, Religion).
Of course, it is ultimately up to YOU how to best utilise your academic time. The work will be there, waiting for you and your child when he/she is ready (in the Workspaces created by our child’s teacher/s).
We understand that some of the posted work/activities may take one child minimal time to complete and another child more time to complete. Please work at the pace your child needs; it is not a race. We have our ups and our downs and this is part of our learning process during this state of emergency. Do what you can; all of it, part of it, none of it. You are in the driver seat; drive safely!
This week: April 6-9th Grade 5 Team Plan
Teacher notes:
- Ms. Bahm & Ms. Nisbet: Instructions and Work are found in the Workspaces (as previously done in past 2 weeks)
- Mme Dicembre: See Workspace
- Mme Gauder & Mme Verhoeven: instructions and work are in the New WorkSpace “5e année: Sciences, Études sociales et Français” (found under Français). Last week’s WorkSpace is still available and can be used for extra activities in Listening, Speaking, Reading and games in French.
